Program Cost Guides

The program cost guides below are estimates based on current economic conditions. An increase of approximately 5-7% for each succeeding academic year should be anticipated. Please plan accordingly for the entire length of your program.

Financial Documents for F-1 or J-1 Student Visas

If you intend to apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa, you will be required by a U.S. consular officer to present a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 and supporting financial documents to demonstrate your ability to meet financial obligations for the first year of your academic program (costs are outlined in the pages linked above). In order to obtain a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 from American University, the student must first be admitted into the university.

For more information, please contact ISSS at (202) 885-3350 or isss@american.edu or visit our Incoming Students Immigration Process page. For further information and guidance on the student visa application process and to find out where and when you can attend a pre-departure student orientation session in your home country, please visit EducationUSA.
